CALLING ALL 2nd GRADE PARENTS!
The WIS Nominating Committee is beginning the process of finding passionate volunteers to fill all of our board positions for the 2012-2013 school year.  Remember, as your children get older, there are a lot less opportunities to go into the classroom so taking on a PTO board position is a great way to stay involved at school.

Click here to find our 2012-2013 online nominating form.  A description of each position can be found on the WIS PTO website, www.wis-pto.org.  The proposed slate of board members will be presented at the March General meeting and voted on in April.

If you have an interest in a WIS PTO board position but not sure which one or have any questions regarding the board, feel free to email me at

Jennifer Socha - WIS Nominating Committee Chair

SOUND TIGERS WINTER READING CHALLENGE
WINTER READING PROGRAM
Students will receive a complimentary ticket for the Sound Tigers Mach 11th game.  Reading log must be postmarked by February 24th and mailed directly to the Sound Tigers.  Click here for more information and to download the form.

YEARBOOK PICTURES
We are hard at work planning for the 2011/12 Hurlbutt Yearbook. NOW is the time to submit all those fun holiday and field trip pictures from 2011! Anyone with multiple pictures who would prefer to upload directly to our Shutterfly yearbook site, please contact Cathy Greene at  to get access. Additionally, you can submit photos by:

1) Burning them to a CD and leaving them in the YEARBOOK mailbox just as you enter the front office. This provides us with the best quality and ensures we'll be able to use them if they are selected.

2) Email - This option only works if you are sending ONE or TWO pictures at a time. You must attach the file, NOT insert the picture. Depending on the day and the server, we find the resolution often gets reduced in the transmission making the photos unusable. You can send them to your room parent or to us.

The pictures we've seen so far are just OUTSTANDING--thanks so much for all the effort you put into this. As always, we'd love ANY pictures you'd like to share...starting with our flashback, we need last spring's field day, memorial day fair, concerts and any year-end parties. Onto this year, we'll take first day of school, book fair, field trip, family fun night, storm-related/Halloween that wasn't photos….

Thank you,
Sam Leuzzi,

WESTON PUBLIC LIBRARY - FARM ART Exhibit - Gallery Talk
Sunday, January 29 at 2pm in the Community Room at the Weston Public Library

If you haven’t seen FARM ART, sponsored by Friends of Lachat, at the Weston Public Library, you have an excellent opportunity to see it and hear Jeff Wilkins speak about his father, Bruce Wilkins' photography and the Lachat farm.  Jeff was there with his family on many occasions as a boy growing up in the 60's and 70's, and helped his uncle Leon Lachat on various projects, such as creating a slalom course for skiing, grilling for a party or going on walks through the woods.

His father, Bruce, who was a commercial artist, took his camera with him on all the outings and his photographs have become a visual narrative of the property during the 1960 -1970s. Jeff is pictured in numerous photographs as he was a ready and able subject being Bruce’s son. Sometimes Bruce is in the photographs as well, having handed off the camera to his in-laws. (Bruce’s wife, Ginny, was Leon’s first wife, Laurie’s sister.)

In the exhibit FARM ART, which has been extended through February, the viewer will see photographs and paintings depicting scenes from farm life - family gatherings, animals, flowing water, skiing, the Lachat meadow, pears, eggs, the pantry full of jars, barns in all seasons, winter scenics from Lachat woods and more. While the majority of the art in the exhibit are photographs by Bruce Wilkins, there is a wonderful mix of newly created paintings and photographs as well as paintings created between the 1950's - 1970's by local artists.

(Leon Lachat's land of more than 40 acres became jointly owned by The Town of Weston and the The Nature Conservancy in 2003 upon his death. The town and the Conservancy has recently decided to lease half of the property to each other.)

The talk will begin at 2 p.m. on January 29th in the Community Room at the Weston Public Library. All are welcome!
